Project Overview
Future Love is a wellness brand by Carolyn Egan, centered on plant-based products, sustainability, and the belief that conscious consumerism can create real change. With a bold mission to challenge the status quo while remaining warm and approachable, the brand needed a visual identity and digital experience that could hold both its expressive spirit and thoughtful intention.
I collaborated with Carolyn on brand design, Shopify web design and development, and packaging design. The project required both creative exploration and strategic organization, particularly as we built out a complex Shopify site with multiple product lines, each with their own identity but united by a shared ethos.
What made this project especially fulfilling was the opportunity to merge psychedelic-inspired visuals with structured, user-centered systems. From expressive art direction to intuitive product navigation, every element was designed to support the brand’s mission and create a customer experience that feels exciting, modern, and inviting.
The Challenge
When Carolyn approached me, Future Love was still in its early stages, so early, in fact, that we changed the business name midway through the project after discovering trademark limitations. That shift alone required deep brand-level thinking, legal consideration, and the ability to pivot while keeping the core vision intact.
Carolyn’s goal was bold: to create a sustainable, ethical alternative to Amazon. It’s a marketplace rooted in wellness, plant-based products, and conscious consumerism. But with such a broad offering and a growing product catalog, the challenge was building a site that could house that vision in a way that felt both expansive and easy to navigate. We needed to organize the product structure clearly without overwhelming the user, and design a navigation experience that felt friendly, intuitive, and spacious.
On the brand side, we had to strike a delicate balance. Carolyn was drawn to whimsy and expressive design, but also wanted to be seen as credible, professional, and future-facing. The visual identity needed to feel fun and energizing, but still polished enough to inspire trust and invite real investment from customers.
My Approach
Brand Design
We began the branding process with a strategic deep dive, exploring the vision for Future Love as a sustainable, joyful, and rebellious alternative to conventional online marketplaces. The goal was to create a visual identity that felt timeless and expressive, drawing inspiration from retro design, and California landscapes. At its core, the brand needed to feel inviting and unpretentious, while still standing out with confidence and clarity in the eCommerce space.
Because we were building from the ground up, I led Carolyn through a collaborative brand strategy process. The final brand centered around a nostalgic-yet-modern aesthetic that could honor the roots of the original brand name, The Lovin’ Touch, while expanding into something bolder and more distinctive.
We landed on a psychedelic, circular logo that plays with movement, playfulness, and symbolism, anchored by a color palette inspired by the Earth and designed for flexibility across both web and packaging. Supporting elements like submarks, typography, and brand marks were all built to echo this spirit: fun, refined, and full of personality. The heart icon, a central element of the original brand, remained a central visual throughout, nodding to the brand’s deeper mission to bring care and consciousness into commerce.
Web Design & Development
With the brand identity fully established, I transitioned into the web design phase with one key goal: to build a digital storefront that felt just as bold, organized, and elevated as Carolyn’s vision for Future Love. Since we were starting completely from scratch—no previous site, no established structure—I knew we needed a strong foundation and a flexible theme that could support the complexity of her product catalog while still offering room for creative direction.
I designed and developed the site on Shopify using the Essencia theme by Standout Shopify as a base. It was the perfect starting point: clean, modern, and built with scalability in mind. From there, I customized the theme to feel distinctly “Future Love” through thoughtful design tweaks, interactive brand elements, and a color-rich, intuitive layout that guides users through the shopping experience with ease.
Because Future Love carries a wide range of products—from jewelry and vintage to self care and printed matter—site organization was a top priority. We needed a system that made sense, even with lots of categories, and still felt easy and enjoyable to navigate. The final design balances that structured clarity with a sense of psychedelic joy and playful professionalism. Each product page was designed to house layered storytelling, from sustainability details to ingredient info, without overwhelming the user.
The result? A website that feels joyful, welcoming, and deeply intentional, just like Carolyn. It invites users to explore, discover, and make values-aligned purchases confidently.
Packaging Design
Packaging was a huge part of this project. As Future Love evolved from concept to product-based brand, Carolyn needed a cohesive system that could carry the brand across a wide range of physical goods: from jewelry to beauty oils, apparel to paper goods. My job was to create packaging that felt visually bold and joyful, while still adaptable to a growing and diverse product line.
I designed a full suite of packaging elements, including product boxes, labels, mailers, jewelry packaging, clothing tags, business cards, postcards, info cards, a calendar, and even a branded tote bag. Each piece was built to feel like part of a unified system, but still flexible enough to reflect the unique energy of each product category.
We made a major pivot during the design phase, shifting from a more line-heavy, pattern-forward look to a vibrant gradient-based system. This not only aligned better with Carolyn’s evolving creative direction, it also ensured the visuals were trademarkable and unique. That adaptability became a signature part of the brand’s identity, helping it stand out both on the shelf and in customers’ homes.
While I focused on the visual and design direction, Carolyn ensured that everything was produced using high-quality, sustainable materials, from water-based inks to fully recyclable packaging. Her commitment to ethical sourcing matched my own care for intentional design, and together we created packaging that feels elevated, thoughtful, and full of joy.
The Outcome
Although Future Love hasn’t officially launched to the public yet, the transformation behind the scenes has already been significant. What started as a loose vision has evolved into a fully realized brand, complete with a bold identity, scalable systems, custom packaging, and a strategic eCommerce site ready to support long-term growth.
From naming support to full brand execution, I’ve partnered with Carolyn every step of the way, and our collaboration is still ongoing. She’s preparing to launch her first Pinterest campaign, and I continue to support her as the brand evolves.
The most important outcome so far? Carolyn’s reaction. She’s consistently expressed how deeply the visuals reflect her intentions and how excited she feels seeing the brand take shape. In her words:
“Everything looks better than I even imagined.”
That’s the kind of impact I aim for in every project, work that brings a client’s vision to life in ways that are not only beautiful, but expansive, aligned, and ready to grow.
